49% of my instagram followers think reacting with 👍 is passive aggressive

I agree with them.

Obviously, that means 51% disagree (you can do that math in your head.)

Where you personally stand on this matter is besides the point: we’re really divided, which is bad.

Imagine the following scenarios:

You reacted to someone’s message with 👍 and they think you’re being passive aggressive. They don’t understand why you’re mad at them. They might even lose sleep over it (probably not, but maybe!)

or 

Someone reacted to your message with a 👍 - and they meant it as a dig! They’re probably doubly pissed now that you didn’t bother to inquire about their pissed-off-ness or attempt to retaliate.

Telepathy might help. Or it might not.

Maybe the useful takeaway here is that we’re less aware of the small yet significant everyday misunderstandings than we may realise.
